What is this major release of Bonita all about?
Bonitasoft has reinforced its “CI/CD ready” approach with Bonita 2023.2, to support our IT teams with development frameworks that are up-to-date with the latest standards and best practices. This new flow brings a series of benefits: accelerate time-to-production with shorter iteration cycles, for easier, faster and more secure new development.
We’re also offering a new version of the Bonita Test Toolkit that includes visualization capabilities of your implemented tests.
Self Contained Applications
The Bonita platform continues to improve as it supports current practices of development teams to make the developer experience as efficient as possible. As part of the ongoing improvements for Self-Contained Applications, more capabilities for Self-Contained Applications have been incorporated into this release of Bonita 2023.2. Building and deploying a self-contained app is done in compliance with modern best practices acclaimed by development teams. The improved workflow means that a complete application can be fully ready to go quickly, accelerating time to value, and Bonita Central is always available to simplify monitoring and control of Bonita applications.
Bonita Self-Contained Applications technologies have been enhanced in a few significant ways, to accelerate time to production beginning with the first BPM project. A Self-Contained Application is built entirely automatically with Bonita, from retrieving the source code, to compiling and downloading dependencies, to deployment in a container. Self-Contained Apps can be natively integrated into continuous integration and delivery pipelines.

Bonita Test Toolkit
But before a new app is launched, it should be thoroughly tested. With this release of Bonita 2023.2 comes a new, user-friendly visual test mechanism. The Bonita Test Toolkit provides a means for developers to visualize which paths and tasks are being covered by the implemented tests. This means an easy-to-understand test coverage for developers and for the process owner on the business side. Better testing leads to better quality for application end users, both internally (employees) and externally (customers, partners).
“Before we got the Bonita Test Toolkit, we were manually testing the processes we automated, which were for citizen requests for state birth and death certificates. We could have written and automated our own test cases, but that is time-consuming and we wanted to go as quickly as possible,” said Sai Tikkisetti, Bonita client project lead developer. “When we implemented the tool, we found that it covered the critical elements of the process and follows all the different possible paths to affirm that everything is working as it should. This has saved us a lot of time. Overall, I’m very impressed with what Bonitasoft has done with this.”

provides a clearer and more intuitive way of tracking progress
With ongoing self-contained applications improvements and the Bonita Test Toolkit’s new visual test report, the technical team can move faster and the business can see ROI that much sooner. Ensuring effective testing by keeping track of the scope performed and identifying errors is a real concern for application developers. Bonitasoft has updated the capabilities of automation reports by adding a visual representation of the test sequence directly on the BPMN diagram. This provides a clearer and more intuitive way of tracking progress, collaborating effectively, and aligning with business/process owners - supporting shorter iterations and streamlined project tracking.
Other features and capabilities
Along with these improvements, Bonita 2023.2 employs a session-sharing mechanism to ensure service continuity and availability for users, supporting the High Availability many Bonita users require. Service continuity is a key element of operational performance, so we are introducing this new native capability to help to ensure access to applications. Even when a node experiences downtime, users will remain seamlessly connected and will be able continue working without interruptions, ensuring smooth operations and increased user satisfaction.
The management of self-contained apps in production using Bonita Central - available for the first time with the previous release of Bonita 2023.1 - still offers the power of managing a fleet of fully independent applications with centralized monitoring and configuration.
There’s more in Bonita 2023.2, including a more user-friendly “maintenance page” feature you can use when the application is in maintenance mode to keep users informed/prepared of service interruptions.
